Last week was an extremely busy, but successful time for the team at Inglis, with $60,501,250 being traded across the HTBA May Yearling Sale, the Australian Weanling Sale, the Chairman’s Sale and Australian Broodmare Sale.
The first of those was the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association May Yearling Sale which saw a Filly by talk of the town sire Extreme Choice top the sale. The filly out of Dash For Cash mare Dashie Diva was sold for $300,000 to Michael Freedman Racing Pty Ltd. There were a total of 222 (86%) yearlings sold at an average of $25,055 and gross of $5,562,250.
The Australian Weanling Sale came next and over two days saw a total of 342 weanlings go through the ring with 266 (78%) sold for an average of $48,914 and gross of $13,011,000. The highlight lot was a Pierro filly sold to Trilogy Racing Pty Ltd for $400,000. The filly is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Fiesta being out of Danehill Dancer mare Now Now.

The glitz and glamour of The Chairman’s Sale came to the fore on Friday night where there were some high class race fillies and broodmares up for sale. There were a total of 84 that were up for sale on the night and 71 (85%) were sold for a whopping gross of $33,430,000 averaging $470,845 per sold lot. The well-publicised top lot was multiple Group 1 winner Shout The Bar who went for an incredible $2,700,000 to Tom Magnier and Coolmore. Other highlights included the sale of Ellicazoom, Sia, Quantum Mechanic, Madam Legend and a stack more of great race fillies and broodmares.

Finally, it was the turn of the Australian Broodmare Sale and there was no slowing down with 170 lots going through the ring with 133 (78%) at an average price of $64,233 at a gross of $8,543,000. The top lot was a prime example of the success of Inglis Digital when Tiz My View sold for $350,000 after being purchased for $15,000 last May. Sold to Team Lucky Vega, the price recently enhanced by the performance of daughter of Tiz My View, Bubble Palace who was a big winner at the Warrnambool carnival last week keeping herself unbeaten.
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch was understandably ecstatic with the enormous week saying:
“It has been fantastic and while it is a big undertaking to get through yearlings, weanlings and mares in the space of a week, it has worked very well and it is just so efficient for most vendors.
To have record sales for HTBA May, Australian Weanling and Chairman’s and then an extremely successful albeit smaller Australian Broodmare Sale today, it really has been an excellent week and one that I think we can continue to develop further.”
The attention now turns to Inglis Digital for their May Online Sale (Early) that is currently underway. Then onto Magic Millions to take the floor when their Gold Coast National Weanling Sale begins on the 19th of May.

The late Japanese stallion doesn’t have a lot of progeny running in Australia but what he does have is all quality. Only a week ago, we saw Glint Of Hope winning the Group 1 Australasian Oaks for the sire. Back in December in Hong Kong we saw both Glory Vase and Loves Only You win their respective Group 1’s in the Vase and Cup.
Son of Deep Impact, Australian Group 1 performer Fierce Impact is now standing at Leneva Park in Victoria for a fee of $16,500. Fierce Impact won 3 Group 1 races during his racing career, Makybe Diva, Cantala and the Toorak.

The last 3 progeny of Deep Impact sold in Australia were in 2021, all 3 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Between them they made $1,750,000 with the highest being a filly out of Redoute’s Choice mare Abbey Marie selling for $900,000.
This week we take a closer look at Saturday’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes winner Snapdancer. The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained 5-year-old mare took the lead early in the 1200m feature and never looked like being run down with Ethan Brown in the saddle for the jockey’s maiden Group 1.

Snapdancer was originally purchased at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2017 for $60,000 by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock before being sold again at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $180,000 by current owner Spicer Thoroughbreds.
Out of Choisir, who passed away in December last year, Snapdancer gave her sire his 13th individual Group 1 winner. She is out of Galileo mare Snapdragon, who has had four other winners, including Drago who was placed at Group level multiple times. Drago was very closely related to Snapdancer being out of Danehill Dancer, sire of Choisir. He ran 3rd in the Group 3 Gloaming over 1800m to Complacent. Snapdancer also ventured out to longer distances as a 3-year-old filly, she raced over 2000m in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes when she ran 11th. She did however, run 2nd to Paradee in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley over a mile. It appears 1200m-1400m is her current strong suit in terms of distance ranges but Group placing over a mile as a 3-year-old, we may see her to get out to that trip some time in the future.

The immediate goals for Snapdancer according to Managing Owner, Brad Spicer are The Goodwood (G1) at Morphettville on Saturday week or the Tatts Tiara (G1) at Eagle Farm during the Queensland winter carnival.
