Our Stallion Of The Week is none other than the Melbourne Cup winning, sire of stayers, Shocking. As a 3-year-old Shocking came 2nd to Court Ruler in the Queensland Derby showing his elite staying ability. It was his 4-year-old season that really cemented the son of Street Cry as a staying superstar. He won the Group 3 Lexus stakes over 2500m and the Group 1 Melbourne Cup over 3200m. As a 5-year-old he showed he wasn’t only a stayer, winning the Group 2 Makybe Diva over 1600m, Group 1 Australian Cup over 2000m and placed in a Group 1 Turnbull over 2000m as well.
His 30 stakes winners have featured a stack of staying stars including Fanatic (winner of Group 1 New Zealand Oaks and Group 2 Adelaide Cup), Defibrillate (Multiple Listed winner), Chocante (Group 2 Brisbane Cup winner), Surprise Baby (Group 2 Adelaide Cup) and many more. Two of his shorter trip performed progeny include, I’m Thunderstruck (Group 1 Toorak Handicap winner) and Elephant (winner of the Group 3 Sandown Stakes).
We are lucky enough to have a son of Shocking who looks an absolute stayer, with shares still available. This 3-year-old gelding is named Showman and is going to be trained by David & Emma-Lee Browne who have had tremendous success with their son of Shocking, Elephant. After 3 terrific trials in New Zealand, Showman came over and trialled at Cranbourne taking a stack of ground off the leaders late.

It was an outstanding front-running victory from Apache Chase in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Now with 9 career victories and a few hundred dollars off earnings of $2 million, Apache Chase will head to the Stradbroke Handicap as a massive chance.
The dynamic duo!

Out of stallion, Better Than Ready, Apache Chase was purchased for $50,000 at the Magic Millions 2019 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale. Better Than Ready was a multiple Listed winner over a sprint trip and Champion Australian First Season Sire (2018/19) by winners. Apache Chase is certainly the best of the progeny that also includes Group 3 winner Alpine Edge, Listed winner The Odyssey and Group 3 winner Tiger Legend.
Apache Chase is the 12th foal of winning Diesis mare Silken Whisper. Before Apache Chase, Silken Whisper had seven foals to race with seven foals to race for five winners including Group 2 winner and Golden Slipper placed Churchill Downs.
Now favourite for the Stradbroke Handicap on the 11th of June, Apache Chase will be tough to run down based on his last start Group 1 win.
