TONY GOLLAN says our newest purchase STRATEGIC POSITION can win a SATURDAY RACE

We have purchased 3-time winner STRATEGIC POSITION (Ex Yulong Defence) from Inglis Digital and we are sending him to Queensland Premiership leading trainer in TONY GOLLAN, who thinks he can win on a SATURDAY in Brisbane.

We were elated to purchase this powerful sprinter at such a great price point of $32,500 fall of hammer. We rang Tony Gollan to ask him to train and not only does he want to train, he thinks it can win a Saturday race in Brisbane worth $42,700 to the winner!

Previously known as Yulong Defence, Strategic Position has form around some of the top sprinters in Victoria. On Boxing Day last year, he finished 0.8L off IN THE BOAT who has won 7 from 11 races including the LISTED Abell Stakes and over $600,000 in prize-money. In November, Strategic Position finished behind IT’SOURTIME who has been narrowly beaten in his last 7 starts, all on Saturday and including 2 x Listed Races and a Group 3. First-up last preparation, Strategic Position started $7.50 and finished 6th in a Saturday $130,000 race, only beaten 2.8 lengths. Out of that race was MIDWEST, who won a $200,000 race at it’s next start; LITTLE STEVIE who won a $130,000 race at Caulfield on Saturday just been and he was only 0.2 lengths off STARRY LEGEND who has won a $130,000 race since and placed in another 3 x Saturday city races!

By sprinting sire STAR WITNESS and out of CANNY LAD mare DEFROCK, making him a half-brother to MULTIPLE GROUP 3 winner in DEPRIVE. Strategic Position was a $400,000 purchase himself at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and just last year a Hellbent colt out of Defrock sold for $260,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

As mentioned above, he will head to the stables of Queensland Premiership leading trainer TONY GOLLAN. There is no better trainer in Queensland and as well as leading this season’s premiership, Tony won his 8th successive metropolitan trainer’s premiership in 2020/21 with 103 city winners. Tony knows what it takes to train a sprinter for Queensland, proven by his Group 1 runners in JONKER, VEGA ONE, TEMPLE OF BOOM, KRONE and SPIRIT OF BOOM. One of the prime examples of Tony taking on a horse from another trainer and improving it to win in Queensland is BALLER. A horse that Chris Waller couldn’t get to win and his original trainer Anthony Cummings hadn’t won with since 2019. Tony has had BALLER for just over a year and has won 3 races with him, the Listed Goldmarket worth $125,000 and the Group 2 Moreton Cup worth $200,000 when he won it in 2021 and $250,000 when he won it earlier in June this year.
