If you’ve ever considered racing a horse with the Mailbag Bloodstock team, this is the perfect entry point.

ARTIE LADY is a fully educated two-year-old filly by Flying Artie, heading to country New South Wales to join respected trainer Matt Dunn at his Murwillumbah stable. She brings solid Victorian form and was an exceptional value buy.

She is by Flying Artie, winner of the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes as a three-year-old, and out of Countess Marinov, a winning mare by Not A Single Doubt who was successful up to 1500 metres. Artie Lady has had just three career starts. While still green, she has shown clear signs of ability, and with further experience, time to mature, and a move to a more suitable racing environment, we believe she can win multiple races for her new ownership group.

On debut at Cranbourne over 1000 metres, she got back to last and was still learning what it was all about, finishing at the tail. However, her second and third starts were full of promise, and the form around those runs has proven strong.

At Pakenham, in her second start, she jumped well and settled in a handy spot. In the straight, she was blocked for clear running until the final 150 metres but closed off nicely once clear, running the third-fastest last 100 metres of the race. The winner, Biologics, was dominant, while Mareth and Queens Of Vino, who filled the placings, have since run well to frank the form. Mareth was unsuited at Mornington but still finished a close fourth in a strong race, and Queens Of Vino ran second at Pakenham.

She then went to Wodonga for her third start and improved again, finishing third. She settled at the back in a small field and had to make a wide run, showing clear signs of greenness in the straight but finishing strongly. She ran the fastest last 200 metres of the race, just 3.2 lengths behind the winner, Impending War. That colt, trained by Lindsay Park, has since won the $125,000 Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill by half a length, with more than four lengths back to third.

Artie Lady is improving with every start and has shown good ability against strong Victorian two-year-old form. With a drop in grade and more time to furnish, she looks a terrific prospect.

We secured her for just $5,000 from Inglis Digital. Considering Flying Artie stands for $11,000 and that she is fully educated and race-experienced, she represents outstanding value. Half of the filly has already been retained by members of her previous ownership group, which is a great sign of their confidence in her future.

Matt Dunn and his bloodstock advisor Neil Jenkinson are looking forward to welcoming her into their stable. They are confident she is a big, scopey filly who will continue to improve with more time and more ground. She has now arrived at Grason Park in Peak Crossing, Queensland, for a short spell before heading into work at Murwillumbah.
